Unidentified woman rescued from Hooghly River in Diamond Harbour; Hospitalised in critical condition

An unidentified middle-aged woman was rescued from the Hooghly River near the Muktangan area of Diamond Harbour on Wednesday afternoon. Local residents reported seeing the woman floating in the water, after which a group of young men from the area jumped into the river and brought her ashore.

The woman was immediately taken to Diamond Harbour District Hospital by locals, where she is currently admitted in critical condition. Hospital sources have not disclosed any further details about her health status, and no identification documents were reportedly found on her at the time of rescue.

Police from Diamond Harbour police station reached the spot after being informed. Officers have started an investigation to determine the woman’s identity and how she ended up in the river. As of now, no information has been confirmed about the circumstances leading to the incident, and further inquiries are underway.
